Hello there! I spent the morning cleaning up my pawpaw patch and unfortunately found a small plant that was damaged from a fallen hickory nut. The plant died but I wanted to take this opportunity to show how important it is to use the right planter for pawpaws. I took the small plant from the ground keeping the roots together as best I could. You’ll notice just how long that tap root is compared to the rest of the plant! Young pawpaws spend their first year or so growing that tap root more than the tree, and those little roots are very delicate and do not handle moving well. When planting seeds, you want a minimum 10″ planter and if you can go deeper all the better.
